A small fire broke out near a World Food Programme food distribution outlet in Camp 24 on Friday morning, according to community members.
The fire started at around 9:00 AM in an area close to the food distribution point. Residents nearby quickly responded and managed to control the flames before the fire spread to surrounding shelters.
No deaths or serious injuries were reported.
“We saw smoke rising near the food outlet and everyone rushed to help control the fire,” one resident told Rohingya Khobor.
Another community member said residents used water and sand to stop the fire from spreading further in the densely populated camp area.
Camp residents said they were initially concerned because fires can spread rapidly in the camps, particularly during hot and windy weather conditions.
