A religious teacher has been arrested and mercilessly tortured by the military in Taungbazar, Buthidaung.

Sajid Ullah was walking along with three other men when an army patrol team approached them at around 3pm on Tuesday. As soon as they saw the military, the men fled but Sajid was apprehended.

Sources say he has been brutally tortured in custody.

Torture of Muslims in custody has become widespread in the notorious prisons of Arakan where hundreds have died since 2012. In the last three days, the army has cracked down on innocent civilians and many have been tortured to death in custody.myanmar military
