Three Rohingya fishermen, including a 16-year-old boy, were reportedly killed and a fourth seriously injured when junta naval forces opened fire on their fishing boat near Sittwe, according to updated information from local sources.

The sources identified those killed as Mohammed Salim, 30; Mohammed Younus, 40; and Halaya, 16. They said Bodiya, 48, survived and was receiving treatment at Sittwe General Hospital after losing a leg.

All four were residents of Anauk Ye, also known as West Ye, an internally displaced persons camp in Pauktaw Township.

According to the local account, they left the camp in a motorised fishing boat at around 2 p.m. on October 24. A junta naval speedboat reportedly opened fire on the vessel at around 4 p.m. The sources also alleged that military personnel seized the boat.

Conflicting Accounts of Casualties

Earlier reports said all four fishermen had died. However, local sources subsequently said Bodiya survived and was receiving treatment at Sittwe General Hospital. Rohingya Khobor could not independently confirm his condition or establish the exact date of the shooting.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear. The information available did not include a response from the Myanmar military.
