Cox’s Bazar, April 29, 2026 — A sudden thunderstorm during Magrib prayer injured two children and damaged shelters in Sub block E 01 of Camp 5 on the evening of April 28, according to local sources.
The injured children, Ashrafa, 11, daughter of Md Ullah, and Rukiya, 16, daughter of Noor Bahar, were inside their shelters when the storm struck. Both were taken to RTMI Hospital and later referred to Ukhiya Health Complex for further treatment.
Residents said the storm also caused damage to several shelters in the area. One resident, Surakhatun, 69, daughter of Abdu Soffor, said her bed was partially damaged due to the impact.
The incident occurred suddenly during prayer time, causing fear among residents. Community members responded quickly to assist the injured and assess the damage.
Residents said such incidents highlight the risks faced by Rohingya refugees during extreme weather conditions, particularly storms and heavy rainfall.
