Trawler sinks: Police files case against 24 human traffickers; 6 arrested

Cox’s Bazar: On Wednesday (5 October 2022) Md Hosne Mubarak, assistant Police Inspector (Unarmed) of Baharchhara Investigation Center filed a case with Teknaf model police station accusing 24 named and 14/15 unnamed prominent human traffickers in connection with recovery of victims and 4 dead in case of trawler drowning in Teknaf sea coast on 4 October.

In this regard, police arrested six human traffickers and sent them to Cox’s Bazar court.

The arrested human traffickers are Shahidullah (30), son of deceased Hasan Ali of Teknaf Sabrang Katabnia, Korban Ali (32), son of Abdur Rashid of Dengmani Para, Qutubjom, Md Salim (32), son of Karim Ullah of Qutubjom Jaliyah Khata, Md Abdullah (21), son of Rashid of Eidgah Ramiyaghona. Abdur Rashid (40) son of late Eliyas of Block No.8 of Ukhia Camp No.14 and Md Sharif (40) son of Kala Mia alias Al Amin resident of Block-A/27 of Balukhali No.10 Camp.2

Bangladesh Coast Guard Teknaf BCG Station Commander Lt. Commander Ashiq Ahmed led the special patrol team of Coast Guard and police patrol team of Teknaf Model Police Station-Baharchara Investigation Center to rescue the Rohingya male and female victims in the incident of boat sinking in the Holbonia coast of Baharchara, Teknaf in the early hours of October 4 (Tuesday).

At around 3 pm, dead bodies of 3 women were found floating at different points of Mantalia beach in Baharchhara and 4 dead bodies including 1 child were recovered from Mankhali coast at night.

Baharchhara Investigation Center in-charge Inspector Noor Mohammad said, after filing a case against the arrested human trafficking brokers, they have been sent to court through Teknaf Model Police Station. The rescued victims have been handed over to the Kutupalong Registered Camp.
