On 12 August 2020, Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) released the candidates’ list for the Rakhine (Arakan) state.

USDP which originated from the Myanmar military was registered on 8 June 2010 by the Union Election Commission, is the strongest opposing party to the current NLD government.

“Many people in Myanmar do not trust the USDP, as it is backed by the Myanmar military and do not want to vote them,” said Ali Jannah Hussin, Communication director of Rohingya Youth Association (RYA). He further added in the 2010 general election, many Rohingya voted for the USDP, with the hope that they will resolve the citizenship issue, which they have created, however, they have never addressed that essential issue.

USDP is contesting for all 17 seats in the Lower House, 12 seats for the Upper House and 34 seats for regional and state parliament in the Rakhine State
