Cox’s Bazar, 1 September 2026: UNHCR Bangladesh and its partner, the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), have launched a Virtual Hearing Initiative in Cox’s Bazar to improve access to judicial services for Rohingya refugees and host communities in Ukhiya and Teknaf.
According to UNHCR Bangladesh, the initiative will make it easier for people to take part in court proceedings remotely and reduce barriers such as long travel, delays at checkpoints and safety concerns.
“Access to justice is a right, not a privilege of proximity,” UNHCR Bangladesh said while announcing the initiative.
The programme has been launched with support from the Government of Bangladesh.
UNHCR said the initiative is intended to make access to justice safer, fairer and more accessible for Rohingya refugees and local communities who face difficulties travelling to court.
