Maungdaw- A Rohingya youth was severely assaulted by a Hlun Htein commander in Khawar Bil, Maungdaw North and then accused of being a robber.
On Sunday, Ekram was operating a pushcart on the road tract when Hlun Htein personal were passing on a motorcycle. As they were passing Ekram, they suddenly stopped, got down from the vehicle.
The Hlun Htein commander said Ekram had failed to show them proper respect and had not moved aside to let the motorcycle pass. He then started assaulting the young man.
Ekram however escaped the scene in the midst of the beating. This angered the Hlun Htein commander even more. He later went to the house of the victim and said Ekram had robbed the Hlun Htein personal. He threatened the family with dire consequences.
Since then the victim is on the run.
