On April 10, 2023, Bangladesh has urged the USA to create a safe protection zone in Myanmar so that the Rohingya can return to their homeland safely.

“Our priority is Rohingya’s repatriation so we discussed with USA for a durable solution to the Rohingya crisis, ” said Foreign Minister, Dr AK Abdul Momen.

He said that US side mentioned that the situation in Myanmar is not conducive for repatriation. “We believe that Arakan state is not safe yet for us. We need guarantee of citizenship and other all rights” said Mr. Rafique, a Rohingya teacher from camp-27.

“I must return to my original village and my home, not to any other place,” he added.

“Rohingya go there, they will find the environment conducive. USA create a safe protection zone for Rohingya in Myanmar. The Rohingya need to build their own future in their own country, ” Momen said.

The Foreign Minister thanked the US government for their continued humanitarian support for the Rohingya sheltered in Bangladesh. He also stressed the need for sustained international pressure on Myanmar to create an environment for the voluntary repatriation of Rohingya to Myanmar.

Secretary Blinken highly praised Bangladesh for generous hosting over one million Rohingya and assured to continue work towards repatriation of the Rohingya.
