The Government of Finland has contributed €2 million to support Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
UNHCR said the funding will help provide essential services for Rohingya refugees, including protection, education, skills development, and programmes designed to improve self-reliance.
According to the agency, nearly 1.2 million Rohingya refugees are currently living in Bangladesh after fleeing violence and persecution in Myanmar. Many continue to depend on humanitarian assistance because of limited opportunities to earn an income.
UNHCR noted that women, children, older people, persons with disabilities, and approximately 150,000 newly arrived refugees remain among the most vulnerable groups within the refugee population.
Ivo Freijsen thanked Finland for its contribution and said the support comes at a critical time.
He noted that humanitarian funding is declining while conditions in the camps remain challenging and the situation in Myanmar continues to be unstable.
Mari Ahmed said Finland stands with both Bangladesh and the Rohingya people.
She added that international assistance should not only address immediate humanitarian needs but also help refugees develop skills and prepare for a better future.
The contribution comes as the United Nations and humanitarian partners seek increased international support through the 2026 Joint Response Plan, which requires $710.5 million to assist approximately 1.56 million people, including Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh.
According to UNHCR, Finland’s contribution will help sustain life-saving assistance and strengthen support services for Rohingya refugees while efforts continue to secure their safe, voluntary, and dignified return to Myanmar.
