Cox’s Bazar, April 19, 2026 — A fire broke out around 6:00 AM in Block D-13 of Camp-2W, spreading quickly through shelters and causing panic among Rohingya residents.
According to local sources, the fire started early in the morning when most families were still inside their homes. Neighbors rushed to help and tried to control the flames using limited water and basic tools.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
One of the affected residents, Mozi Alam, 53, son of Bodi Alam, was present during the incident. Community leaders, including Sub Majhi Jamal Hossain and Head Majhi Nur Muhammad, informed camp authorities and coordinated efforts to manage the situation.
Residents said the fire spread rapidly due to the closely built shelters made of bamboo and tarpaulin. “We woke up to smoke and shouting. Everyone was trying to save their families,” said one witness.
So far, no confirmed reports of casualties have been received, but several shelters were damaged, leaving families in distress.
