Rights groups said that the human traffickers were holding hostage of the Rohingyas who have taken the perilous sea journey to Malaysia and other countries and has demanded payments from their families for release.
A Rohingya refugee from the Cox’s Bazar camp said that the traffickers have told them that they will take the money only when their relatives reach Malaysia. However, the trafficker has demanded when they were in the sea.
Many people lost their lives due to lack of food and water and many more were raped and tortured on board according to the survivors.
