Myanmar military arrests 9 Rohingya in Pauk Taw township, Rakhine State

Bangladesh, Barmapara refugee camp, Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, 14 March 2018 The recent violence in Myanmar’s northern Rakhine State has led to mass population displacement both within the country and across the border into Bangladesh. As of January 2018, 882,000 people have received food from WFP. Fortnightly rations, calculated for a family of five, consist of 25 kg of rice, 4 kg of lentils and oil. 90,000 people are also enrolled in WFP’s e-voucher programme, under which they receive a monthly entitlement on a pre-paid debit card. They can use this in allocated shops to buy 19 different types of food, including rice, lentils, fresh vegetables, eggs and dried fish. On 23 June, the joint investigation team arrested nine Rohingyas. They have also seized 100 bags of rice. The rice bags had the label World food program (WFP). Besides, there were 600 bottles of cooking oil (3 litres), 20 bags of peas and over 87 lakh Kyats, according to Rakhine state Government News.

The arrested persons were from Pauk Taw township and they are now in the custody of the Sittwe City Police station.
