Cox’s Bazar, 6 September 2026: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) says it detained a 19-year-old Rohingya man in Camp 11, Ukhiya, and recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine and four rounds of ammunition from him.

The detainee was identified as Mohammad Zahir, 19, son of Rashid Ahmed and a resident of Block 2 in Camp 12, Moynargona.

According to RAB-15, personnel from its Crime Prevention Company-2 set up a checkpoint near the Multipurpose Community and Service Centre in the Moragachtola area of Camp 11 at around 12:20 a.m. on 5 September.

RAB said officers detained Zahir during the checkpoint operation and recovered a foreign-made pistol, one magazine and four rounds of ammunition during a search.

The agency further claimed that Zahir said during preliminary questioning that he was an active member of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA).

RAB also alleged that he had previously carried weapons inside the camps and had been involved in criminal activities.

These claims about Zahir’s alleged ARSA membership and previous activities have not been independently verified.

Several Bangladeshi news outlets reported the arrest, but their accounts appear to rely on the same RAB statement rather than separate evidence.

RAB said an arms case was filed against Zahir and that he was handed over to Ukhiya Police Station for further legal action.

Rohingya Khobor could not independently verify the seizure list, court documents or the evidentiary basis for the alleged ARSA affiliation.
