Residents of Kyaw Hla Ka Village in Maungdaw Township say the Arakan Army (AA) has announced mandatory monthly financial contributions for every household following a village meeting held on June 27.
According to several residents who spoke to Rohingya Khobor, one representative from each household was summoned to attend the meeting at the village school, where approximately six AA/United League of Arakan (ULA) members, including local commanders from Area (3), addressed villagers.
Residents said AA/ULA officials told those present that the ULA required financial support and that every household would be expected to make monthly payments.
“The officials gathered one person from every family and told us that monthly payments would be required from all households,” one resident said. “They said this would be an ongoing contribution.”
According to residents, officials said the money would be used for public services and community development. They also reportedly told villagers that additional financial support could be requested in the future for road and transportation projects.
“They explained that the money would benefit the public,” another resident said. “But many families are already struggling to meet their basic needs, so this has created concern.”
Residents said households were informed they would be required to contribute between 5,000 and 10,000 kyats (approximately US$2–4) each month, with the amount varying by household.
“We were told that everyone must contribute,” another resident said. “People are worried because they do not know whether the payments could increase in the future.”
The reported announcement comes as many families in Maungdaw continue to face economic hardship following years of conflict and displacement.
At the time of publication, the AA/ULA had not publicly responded to residents’ accounts of the meeting.
