A Rohingya man was seriously injured after being attacked by a group of unidentified people in Camp 14 in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, according to local sources.
The injured man was identified as Asad Ullah, a resident of Block D/3.
Local sources told Rohingya Khobor that Asad Ullah had gone to Block E/01 during the night. After returning towards his shelter, he was reportedly intercepted by a group of unidentified people and severely beaten.
The attackers allegedly threw him down a hillside after the assault, leaving him badly injured.
According to community sources, Asad Ullah remained at the site calling for help until residents from a nearby area found him approximately two hours later.
He was subsequently rescued and taken to an MSF hospital for medical treatment.
The attack reportedly occurred at around 4:30 a.m. on August 8.
The identities of the attackers and the motive behind the assault remain unknown. Rohingya Khobor could not independently verify the circumstances surrounding the attack or whether any suspects had been identified.
The incident has renewed concerns among residents about security inside the refugee camps, particularly during the night and early morning hours.
Community members called for an investigation into the attack and urged the relevant authorities to identify those responsible and strengthen protection for residents.
No official statement from camp security authorities regarding the incident was available at the time of publication.
