A Rohingya woman was killed after a wall collapsed onto her family’s shelter in Camp 8E on Monday afternoon, according to local sources.
The victim was identified as Bibi Hafsa, wife of Nurul Islam. The incident occurred at around 4:20 p.m. in Block D-5.
According to local sources, the accident happened during heavy rainfall when a wall belonging to the former JCF School building, now operated by Mutki, collapsed onto the family’s shelter. Bibi Hafsa died at the scene.
She is survived by her husband and their two sons. The family consists of four members: two adults and two boys.
The incident comes as heavy monsoon rains continue to increase the risk of landslides, structural failures, and other weather-related hazards across the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar.
Community members expressed grief over the woman’s death and called for stronger safety measures around buildings and shelters to help prevent similar tragedies during the monsoon season.
