Yesterday, 2 Rohingya women were detained in Kurigram, Rangpur when they were trying to apply for Bangladeshi passport.

The detainees are Khurshida Akter (19), a resident of Block-D under Balukhali No. 1 Rohingya Camp and Hasina Akter Baby (18) of Block-9 under Camp No. 27.

Kabir Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of the Passport Office, Kurigram said, in the applications while applying for passport they mentioned their identities as Khurshida Akter, daughter of Faizer Sheikh, of South Bauniar Char under Nayarhat union in Chilmari Upazila and Hasina Akter, daughter of Azizul Haque, of Beparipara Baliamari village under Sadar union in Sadar upazila of Kurigram respectively, he added.

During the conversation, it seemed that the women are Rohingyas and they were later handed over to Sadar Police Station, the official added.

The Police station officer in-charge Khan Mohammad Shahriar said, the women applied for passports by making birth certificates to go to Saudi Arabia and during the primary interrogation they admitted that, they came from Balukhali Rohingya camp, Cox’s Bazar.
