On 14 February 2023, the Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) approved a notice, wherein they announced and warned the locals not to let any Rohingya refugees to playing football match and even instructed to refraining Rohingyas from being spectators outside camp.
“Games cannot be organized where Rohingya players can participate and Rohingyas can be spectators,” the notice said.
The Notice also instructed to stop all of the tournaments where Rohingyas are participating.
According to notice, the legal action will be taken against those who dare to violate the instructions.
A Rohingya from Kutupalong camp said, “The local influential persons organize football tournaments in adjacent to camp area and let Rohingyas to participate the tournament. In exchange, the tournament organizers get numerous refugee spectators caused organizers being financially profited.”
The tournament organizers take 30 taka from each spectators. During the match of Rohingya team, the Rohingya spectators figure exceed the highest figure of local spectators. And so, some of the jealous locals instigated the local administration and finally Rohingya refugees have been denied from playing football and being spectators.
