Three Rohingya civilians, including two 12-year-old children, were injured after the Myanmar military carried out an airstrike on Kyet Mauk Taung village in Buthidaung Township on Wednesday morning. The attack also damaged nearly 10 homes, forcing families to deal with fear and destruction.
Local residents said the attack happened at around 11:00 a.m. A fighter jet and a Y-12 aircraft reportedly dropped two 500-pound bombs near the western side of the village.
“It was raining heavily, so we could not hear the aircraft,” one resident told Rohingya Khobor. “Then two bombs exploded one after another. Everything shook, and people started running. Two children and one older man were hurt by the bomb fragments.”
The injured were identified as 12-year-old Soyedul Amin, 12-year-old Mohammad Aros, and 50-year-old Amin Hossain.
Soyedul Amin suffered a broken left thigh and was seriously injured. Mohammad Aros was hit by bomb fragments in his lower abdomen, while U Amin Hossain suffered injuries above his right eye. The seriously injured child was taken to a nearby clinic for emergency treatment.
Residents said the explosions also damaged nearly 10 houses. Homes belonging to several families were heavily affected, leaving many worried about their safety.
“There was no fighting here,” another resident told Rohingya Khobor. “We were just living our daily lives. Now we are afraid all the time because we do not know when another airstrike might happen.”
The attack comes only days after another reported airstrike on June 24 in Maungdaw Township, where two Grade 12 students were injured and more than 10 homes were damaged.
People living in Buthidaung say they continue to face fear as airstrikes on civilian areas have become more frequent. Many families are struggling to protect their loved ones while also coping with damage to their homes and the constant risk of more attacks.
