Cox’s Bazar — October 7, 2026
Representatives of the United Council of Rohingya (UCR) have called for a clear roadmap for the safe and sustainable return of Rohingya to Myanmar while also urging stronger international support for communities hosting refugees in Bangladesh.
The calls were made during a roundtable dialogue in Cox’s Bazar titled “Towards Ten Years of Solidarity – From Emergency Response to Sustainable Solutions.”
The programme was organised by the NGOs Platform Cox’s Bazar with support from Switzerland and hosted by Plan International.
UCR representatives Khin Maung and Sajida Begum participated as panelists in the first session, according to information shared by the organisation.

Khin Maung raised concerns about the needs of both Rohingya refugees and local host communities. He called on the international community to work towards a clear roadmap for safe and sustainable Rohingya repatriation while maintaining support for communities affected by the prolonged refugee response.
Sajida Begum highlighted gaps and challenges in humanitarian assistance and development and called for Rohingya voices to be included in discussions and decisions about their future.
The UCR representatives also stressed the need for stronger social cohesion between Rohingya and host communities.
The dialogue brought together representatives of the Bangladesh authorities, humanitarian organisations and international agencies.
Among those attending were Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan and UNHCR Representative in Bangladesh Ivo Freijsen, according to information shared about the event.
The discussion comes as humanitarian agencies face continued pressure over funding for the Rohingya response, while large-scale voluntary return to Myanmar has yet to take place.
