Twelve Rohingya individuals, including two children, were arrested by Junta forces in Thabaung Township of Ayeyarwady Region earlier this week, according to local sources.
The arrests reportedly took place on the evening of May 5 near Thae Phyu Village after the group arrived in the area from Rakhine State.
A source close to local police said authorities were informed about the group’s presence before security personnel, including soldiers and police officers, carried out the operation.
The current whereabouts of those detained remain unknown.
Local sources said the group included seven men, three women, and two children under the age of 18. They were reportedly from Sittwe Township in Rakhine State.
Residents and community members said Rohingya attempting to travel outside Rakhine continue to face movement restrictions, surveillance, and risk of arrest, even when traveling internally within Myanmar.
Earlier in March, seven Rohingya individuals were also reportedly arrested by Junta forces in nearby Yekyi Township, reflecting continued restrictions on Rohingya movement beyond Rakhine State.
