Camp-13, Cox’s Bazar | January 2025

The leaders of Camp-13 recently came together for a crucial meeting aimed at addressing the pressing needs of their community. Guided by three central themes—unity, repatriation, and ongoing community initiatives—the gathering brought together Majhs (community leaders) and Imams (spiritual leaders) to inspire hope and strength among the Rohingya people.

Unity: The Foundation for Progress

The leaders stressed that unity is critical for the survival and progress of the Rohingya community. “To discuss unity is important for our community right now,” stated Khin Maung, one of the organizers. He emphasized that unity strengthens their collective voice and ensures mutual support within the camp.

The Majhis underscored how cooperation among families could amplify their efforts to advocate for the community’s rights and ensure that the people’s needs are addressed effectively. “We must stand together, for divided we fall, but united we can achieve great things,” said a senior Majhi.

Repatriation: The Ultimate Goal

Repatriation was firmly established as the community’s top priority during the meeting. “Repatriation is our top priority,” reiterated Khin Maung. The leaders discussed the need for a safe, dignified return to Myanmar, where Rohingya refugees can reclaim their identity, rights, and citizenship.

The leaders highlighted that while repatriation is a complex process requiring international support, accountability, and security guarantees, it remains the community’s ultimate goal. “We dream of a day when we can return home with dignity and peace,” said a camp resident.

Ongoing Community Initiatives

The meeting also focused on introducing and reinforcing ongoing efforts to support the community in Camp-13. The leaders shared updates on:

  • Education Programs: Ensuring children have access to quality learning opportunities.
  • Skills Training for Youth: Equipping young Rohingya with tools for a better future.
  • Health Awareness Campaigns: Promoting well-being within the camp.

These initiatives aim to empower the community while preparing them for eventual repatriation. The leaders proposed regular gatherings to update residents and engage them in meaningful actions.

Conclusion

The meeting concluded with a collective prayer for peace, justice, and a brighter future. The leaders pledged to work tirelessly toward building a united, resilient community ready to reclaim their homeland.

This gathering was a reminder of the strength that comes from unity and the importance of working collectively to achieve shared goals. Even in challenging times, the Rohingya community of Camp-13 remains steadfast in their journey toward justice and peace.
