Airstrikes and fighting continued across parts of Rakhine State this week as the Myanmar Junta carried out aerial attacks in areas under Arakan Army control, according to local reports and resident accounts.
The attacks were reported in Minbya and Kyauktaw townships on May 7, where residents said military aircraft carried out repeated bombing raids on villages and nearby mountainous areas.
In Minbya Township, residents said airstrikes began at around 2:15 PM near Kyauktaw village and surrounding communities. Witnesses reported that the bombing continued for approximately 40 minutes, damaging homes and killing livestock.
“One moment we heard the sound of jets, and then bombs started falling everywhere,” one resident told Rohingya Khobor. “People were running in fear.”
Later that night, additional airstrikes were reported near Thong Khwa village in Kyauktaw Township. Local sources said multiple aircraft were involved in the operation, with explosions continuing for an extended period during the night.
Residents and local sources reported civilian casualties during the attacks, including the death of a child and a medical worker associated with a prison facility. Around 10 other people were reportedly injured, some seriously.
Local reports also alleged that cluster munitions may have been used during the operation, although Rohingya Khobor could not independently verify the claim.
“The sound of the bombs was very strong,” another resident said. “Families could not sleep because everyone feared another attack.”
The airstrikes also reportedly damaged homes and killed several cattle belonging to villagers.
Residents in affected areas said fear and displacement concerns continue to grow as aerial attacks and clashes intensify in different parts of Rakhine State.
