Kyauktaw, Rakhine State | May 8, 2026
Residents in parts of Rakhine State reported heavy overnight airstrikes near Kyauktaw Township on May 7 following claims circulating online that AA/ULA leader Major General Tun Myat Naing was present in the area.
According to local sources, the Myanmar Junta used multiple aircraft during the operation, including jet fighters and transport planes reportedly involved in bombing runs. The strikes began at around 10:00 PM and targeted mountainous areas between Buthidaung and Kyauktaw townships, including sections of the Arkar Taung mountain range.
Residents estimated that dozens of bombs were dropped during the attacks, although the exact number could not be independently verified.
“At first, several jet fighters came and dropped bombs for about 10 minutes,” one local resident told Rohingya Khobor. “Later, another group of aircraft arrived and continued the attack. The sounds were very frightening.”
People living near the affected areas said the explosions and aircraft activity continued throughout the night, forcing many residents to remain alert or move in search of safer locations.
Local residents also claimed that larger-scale aerial operations have become more common in recent months, with several aircraft reportedly participating in some attacks instead of the smaller operations previously reported.
Following the strikes, military-aligned Telegram channels claimed the attacks targeted areas where Major General Tun Myat Naing was believed to be staying. Rohingya Khobor could not independently verify the claim.
No official casualty figures or damage assessments were immediately available.
