Cox’s Bazar, April 30, 2026 — A landslide in Camp 17 injured one person, while separate incidents of falling trees damaged shelters in Camp 2E amid heavy rain and strong winds over the past two days, according to local sources.
Landslide Injures One in Camp 17
The landslide occurred on April 28 in Block C04 of Camp 17. The injured man, identified as Dil Mohammed, was inside his shelter when the slope collapsed and trapped him.
Residents rushed to the scene and rescued him from the damaged shelter. He was later taken to a hospital for treatment. He lives in the camp with a family of seven.
Sources said the landslide measured around 20 feet in length and 10 feet in height, raising concerns among nearby residents living close to the hillside.

Falling Trees Damage Shelters in Camp 2E
Two separate tree fall incidents were reported on April 29 in Camp 2E due to strong winds and heavy rain.
The first incident took place around 4:20 PM in Block E 2, where a large tree was uprooted and fell onto a shelter belonging to Mv Ayatullah, 35, completely damaging the structure. No injuries were reported.
The second incident occurred around 5:00 PM in Block BW5, where two trees fell onto a shelter owned by Nur Mohammed, 60, causing moderate damage. No casualties were reported.
Residents said such incidents highlight the risks faced during severe weather, as many shelters remain vulnerable to strong winds and heavy rainfall, particularly during the monsoon season.
