Sittwe, Rakhine State, April 22, 2026 — Myanmar Junta forces have reportedly detained nine individuals, including five Rohingya women, after intercepting their boat along the Mayu River near the Palanpyin camp in Sittwe on the morning of April 22, according to local sources.
Sources said the group had departed from Rathedaung and was stopped around 8:00 AM. The detainees are currently being held at the camp.
Local residents expressed concern for their safety, saying the group is being subjected to violent interrogation because they traveled from an area under Arakan Army control. Reports indicate that detainees have been beaten and physically abused.
Among the five women held, three are in their 30s. A local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, raised concerns about the risks faced by the women, noting that they have not been transferred to police custody.
“The soldiers are drinking and using drugs every day, which makes us extremely worried about the fate of the detained women. Under the law, they should be handed over to a police station immediately,” he said.
The detainees are reportedly from Rohingya villages in the Kutaung tract on Masi Island. The purpose of their journey has not been confirmed.
Another source alleged that a baby and a child were shot dead by the military during the incident.
