The Rohingya Green Nature Society (RGNS), a youth-led non-profit organization, has been making significant strides in promoting environmental sustainability and resilience within the Rohingya refugee camps. Established in 2023, RGNS is dedicated to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) through various grassroots initiatives.

Vision and Mission

RGNS envisions a pollution-free, healthy, green, safe, and prosperous life for all, particularly within the Rohingya community. The organization aims to build a climate-smart society, raise voices against discrimination, and foster environmental sustainability and resilience through action, intervention, and advocacy.

Key Activities and Achievements

  1. Plant Distribution: RGNS has organized numerous plant distribution events, successfully distributing over 1,200 plants to enhance greenery and ecological balance within the refugee camps.
  2. Emergency Response: The organization has provided immediate support to over 450 families affected by fires in Rohingya refugee camps 05 and 13, offering food items and clothing.
  3. Training and Education: RGNS has trained over 200 young people in the community through more than 30 training sessions focused on sustainable agriculture, climate change adaptation, and environmental conservation practices. Additionally, over 150 adolescents have participated in climate change sessions, raising awareness about the impacts of climate change and the importance of taking action.
  4. Youth Empowerment: Through workshops and seminars, RGNS empowers young people to become agents of change in their communities. This initiative has successfully raised the voices of more than 300 young Rohingya community members in advocating for the prevention of air and soil pollution.
  5. Online Awareness Campaigns: The organization’s online campaigns have reached over 3,000 people, spreading awareness about plastic pollution and promoting environmental stewardship.

Community Impact

The efforts of RGNS are crucial in fostering a resilient, environmentally conscious Rohingya community actively engaged in sustainable practices and climate change mitigation. By promoting tree planting, providing emergency response, and educating the community on environmental conservation, RGNS is paving the way for a greener and safer future for the Rohingya refugees.
