A young Rohingya man was seriously injured in a landmine explosion near the Myanmar border close to Ukhiya on Sunday morning, according to local sources.
The victim was identified as 27-year-old Salman, a resident of G/9 Block in Camp-10, Ukhiya. He is the son of Md. Nizamot Ali and Nur Marijan.
According to local residents, the explosion took place around 9:30 AM near the Katapahar post inside Myanmar, close to the border area adjacent to Bangladesh.
Sources said Salman reportedly stepped on a landmine, triggering a powerful explosion that left him severely injured.
People in the area said he suffered serious injuries to different parts of his body following the blast and was later taken for emergency medical treatment.
Landmine incidents near the Myanmar border continue to create fear among Rohingya civilians, particularly those living near border areas and routes considered unsafe.
Residents said many civilians remain at risk while travelling or moving near border zones affected by conflict and insecurity.
Local community members expressed concern over the continuing danger and called for stronger safety measures to protect civilians from further landmine incidents.
