UNHCR has introduced a new LPG distribution and repair service system across the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, with NF Enterprise officially replacing Beximco as the LPG supplier from July 1.
According to UNHCR, the change in supplier will not affect the existing refill schedule. Refugee households should continue bringing their LPG cylinders to distribution points on their assigned refill dates.
As part of the transition, households will exchange their Beximco cylinders for new metal cylinders supplied by NF Enterprise, containing the same amount of LPG. UNHCR said only Beximco cylinders issued through its LPG programme and in good condition will be accepted for exchange.
The agency also announced a new cylinder registration system. Each LPG cylinder has a unique identification number, which will now be recorded by NF Enterprise. Households must present the same registered cylinder during future refill cycles. Lost or stolen cylinders should be reported through the nearest Complaints and Feedback Response Mechanism (CFRM) office or the UNHCR Helpline (16670).
UNHCR also introduced changes to stove repair services. From July 1, technicians will no longer provide repairs at LPG distribution points. Instead, refugees can obtain repair services from designated community repair shops near distribution points in Camps 1E, 2W, 4, 4 Extension, 7, and 17, as well as at Livelihoods Hubs in Camp 4 Extension and Camp 27.
The agency said standard repair prices will be displayed at repair shops and distribution points to promote transparency.
UNHCR also reminded refugee families to handle LPG safely, keep cylinders secure, and use the fuel only for household cooking. The agency warned that tampering with LPG cylinders or misusing the fuel could result in serious fires and injuries.
