Eleven Rohingya individuals, including four women, were arrested by the Myanmar navy on April 16 in Ngayokekaung town in Ayeyarwady Region, according to sources assisting the Rohingya community. Their current whereabouts remain unknown.
Sources said the arrests took place near Gwa Chaung Bridge during the Thingyan festival. The group included seven men and four women.
A source told Rohingya Khobor, “There are women among them. The navy found them during patrol and arrested them. We still do not know where they were taken.”
Another source said the group was detained by a navy unit based on Hainggyi Island while attempting to travel toward Yangon. “They were trying to move onward when they were caught,” the source said.
Among those arrested, three individuals are reported to be over the age of 50, while the others are under 30.
Sources said the group had traveled from Rakhine State and entered Ayeyarwady Region, reportedly seeking to leave the country amid ongoing conflict, discrimination, and pressure.
No official statement has been released regarding the arrests.
The incident reflects continued movement of Rohingya individuals attempting to flee insecurity in Rakhine State.
