The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has intensified its efforts to control crime in the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. Following a rise in violent incidents, including murders and drug trafficking, the APBn, along with other law enforcement agencies such as RAB, BGB, police, and Ansar, has strengthened joint operations and increased patrols in the camps.

APBn Chief Additional IGP Selim Mohammad Jahangir announced the enhanced measures, emphasizing the importance of security for the Rohingya refugees. The patrols aim to prevent crimes such as murder, drug trade, and the use of illegal weapons. The initiative comes in response to the activities of criminal gangs and insurgent groups like the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and Arakan Solidarity Organisation (RSO), which have been linked to numerous violent incidents.

In addition to increased patrols, APBn has also augmented the number of checkposts and intensified detective surveillance to ensure the safety of the refugees. This coordinated effort includes regular joint operations involving over 450 personnel from various law enforcement agencies, patrolling different blocks of the camps.

The APBn and other forces have made significant arrests and recoveries in recent months. For instance, during an operation at the Unchiprang Rohingya camp in Teknaf, law enforcers arrested three members of the RSO and seized firearms and ammunition. This operation followed a series of violent incidents, including murders and clashes between armed groups within the camps.

As the situation remains tense, APBn continues to work closely with community leaders, religious figures, and other stakeholders to raise awareness and ensure the safety of the Rohingya refugees. The efforts also involve monitoring and responding to the ongoing internal conflicts in Myanmar, which have contributed to the influx and subsequent unrest among the refugee population.
