On 6th February, a 24 year old Rohingya man was detained by Indonesian Police. The man was charged as one of the alleged members of a syndicate smuggling Rohingya refugees from Aceh to Malaysia.

Police arrested the man when he was about to enter a refugee camp in Aceh and smuggle 7 refugees.

Pidie Police Chief, Imam Asfali said, the man admitted to being an agent of a “big boss” who was in Malaysia.

He said, “An investigation revealed that the individual entered Indonesia illegally on Jan 24 through Dumai, Riau, and he has been handed over to Indonesian immigration for further action.”

He added that the syndicate previously tried to send refugees from the Lhokseumawe camp in Aceh to Medan before being brought to Malaysia with the help of a Rohingya.
