Three Rohingya refugees, including a mother and her two young daughters, were injured after a guide wall collapsed on them in Camp-14 on Saturday.
The injured were identified as Sajida, a mother of five, and her daughters, Shefa and Shafia.
According to camp sources, the incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. in Block A, Sub-block A03 (FCN: 229705, Shelter No: C14-A03-220A). Sajida was washing clothes near her shelter while her two daughters were playing nearby when the guide wall suddenly collapsed onto them.
All three sustained injuries in the incident. According to community members, the guide wall had been built by the family themselves before it collapsed.
The incident highlights the safety risks many Rohingya families face while living in fragile shelters and makeshift structures, particularly during the monsoon season, when heavy rainfall can weaken retaining walls and destabilize surrounding soil.
The injured were reported for follow-up assistance, while community members expressed concern about the safety of similar structures across the refugee camps.
“We live in shelters built with limited materials. During the rainy season, we always fear that walls or slopes could collapse at any time,” one resident said.
Another community member added:
“Every family wants to keep their children safe, but many structures are too weak to withstand heavy rain and changing ground conditions.”
