Cox’s Bazar | July 28, 2026

A Rohingya man who had reportedly been missing for four days was found bound and injured in bushes near the TV Tower rubber garden in the Cox’s Bazar refugee camps early Tuesday morning, according to his family and community members.

The man was identified as Mohammed Alam, a resident of Block C-10 in Camp 2W. Community members reportedly found him at around 3:00 a.m. near the Transit Centre Mosque.

According to his family, Alam left his shelter after Friday prayers on July 24 to buy materials from Kutupalong Bazaar to repair his home. His wife said he had eaten lunch with the family before leaving. They lost contact with him after his departure.

Around two days later, the family reportedly received a telephone call from an unknown number demanding a ransom for his release. It remains unclear whether any money was paid.

After being found, Alam reportedly told community members that an unknown man approached him and began speaking to him while he was on his way to the market. He alleged that he was then abducted from Kutupalong Bazaar, blindfolded and driven for approximately 40 minutes in a CNG-powered three-wheeler.

Alam said he did not know where he had been taken or held. He also alleged that his abductors beat him with an iron object, leaving him with injuries to several parts of his body.

He reportedly declined to say whether his family had paid a ransom, explaining that he remained afraid of the abductors and of details about the incident becoming widely known.

A Rohingya youth who said he had known Alam for several years described him as a hardworking man who earns a living by selling Tunkar juice at Kutupalong Vegetable Market.

“As far as I know, Mohammed Alam is a hardworking man from Camp 2W, Block C-10. I know him personally because I worked in his block for four years. It is heartbreaking to hear that he was reportedly found tied up near the TV Tower rubber garden,” the youth said.

The identities of those allegedly responsible remain unknown. It is also unclear where Alam was held, how he reached the area where he was found or whether he has received medical treatment.

Community members have called on camp authorities, law enforcement agencies and humanitarian organisations to provide Alam with urgent medical and protection assistance and to investigate the reported abduction.

This report is based on accounts provided by Alam, his family and community members. Rohingya Khobor could not independently verify the alleged kidnapping, ransom demand or assault. Further investigation is required to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
