Kutupalong Registered Camp, Cox’s Bazar | June 17, 2026
Rohingya refugees staged a protest in Kutupalong Registered Camp on Tuesday following the death of Mohammed Idrish, a well-known community activist and resident of Block D, according to community members.
Idrish was widely known in the camp for advocating for the rights of Rohingya refugees and vulnerable community members. Residents said he frequently engaged with visiting delegations and worked on issues related to human rights, protection, and community welfare.
News of his death quickly spread throughout the camp, prompting a large number of refugees to gather and demand answers regarding the circumstances surrounding his passing.
According to protesters, Idrish had gone to the hospital for treatment before his death. Some community members raised concerns about the medical care he received and called for an independent investigation into the incident. No evidence supporting these concerns has been publicly released, and the cause of death had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting.
As tensions grew, officials from the Camp-in-Charge (CIC) office and other authorities arrived at the hospital and surrounding areas. Witnesses said many refugees expressed frustration and called for justice and transparency.
Community leaders and residents have urged authorities to conduct a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation and to make the findings public. They also called for appropriate action if any negligence or wrongdoing is found.
The situation remained tense as authorities continued to monitor developments.
Many refugees expressed condolences to Idrish’s family and remembered him as a dedicated advocate for the Rohingya community who worked to raise concerns affecting camp residents.
