Kutupalong Camp 1 East, Cox’s Bazar | May 25, 2026
A young Rohingya woman was killed late at night inside Kutupalong Camp 1 East in Cox’s Bazar, leaving behind two small children and a grieving family, according to local residents and relatives.
The victim was identified as Ajida Begum, 20, wife of Mohammad Jomil, 24, a shopkeeper living in the camp.
According to family members and local residents, the incident took place around 2:00 AM inside the family’s shelter.
Ajida Begum was the daughter of Hafiz Sha Alom and Shofika. Residents said the couple had reportedly been experiencing family disputes before the incident.
Speaking to Rohingya Khobor, Ajida’s mother alleged that her daughter was killed by her husband inside the shelter.
“My daughter was killed by her husband, where she had no way to escape from the shelter,” she said.
Residents said the situation became even more tragic because one of the couple’s children reportedly witnessed the moment when his mother died.
Family members and neighbors said the incident left the children and relatives in deep shock and grief.
Local residents gathered near the shelter after hearing the news and expressed sorrow over the death of the young mother.
“No child deserves to lose their mother in such a painful way,” one resident said. “The children are now suffering the biggest loss of their lives.”
Another resident said domestic violence and family conflict continue to destroy innocent lives inside the camps.
“The children will carry this pain forever,” the resident said.
The death of Ajida Begum has raised concern among camp residents about domestic violence and the safety of women and children inside the refugee camps.
Community members called for greater protection for women and children and support for the grieving family. Many residents also said they were praying for Ajida Begum and hoping her children would receive proper care and protection during this difficult time.
