Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam visited Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday alongside senior government officials and humanitarian representatives to review conditions and ongoing services inside the camps.
During the visit, the delegation observed food assistance activities operated by the World Food Programme in Camp 4 and visited an LPG distribution facility serving Rohingya refugees.
The minister also met Rohingya youth representatives during a discussion session inside the camp, where issues related to education, future opportunities, and repatriation were discussed.
The delegation later visited a hospital operated by Médecins Sans Frontières in Camp 8W to review healthcare services available to refugees.
In Camp 18, officials visited a learning center run by Community Development Centre, while another visit took place at a production facility supported by UNIQLO in the Kutupalong Registered Camp, where livelihood-related activities for refugees are being carried out.
Later in the day, a coordination meeting was held involving representatives from law enforcement agencies, UN bodies, NGOs, and international humanitarian organizations including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Discussions reportedly focused on current camp conditions, humanitarian challenges, and coordination efforts among responding agencies.
The visit comes amid continued concerns over declining international funding, overcrowding in the camps, and ongoing uncertainty surrounding the repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
