Anuwar Islam

Rohingya have been living in Bangladesh Refugee camps for over decades. We came here in Bangladesh from the unbearable forms of torture and persecution of the cruel Government of Myanmar.

The Myanmar Government created so many restrictions especially on Rohingya Muslim in Myanmar that is why the Rohingya are compelled to leave their motherland Arakan (Burma).

Later then we also have survived a lot. We have shifted from one place/camp to another and still we are in camp life in Bangladesh Refugee camp.

We would like to convey our special thanks to the Government of Bangladesh and international communities for providing us shelter and humanitarian support. They provide us shelters, food, clothes, treatment and education and so on not only that they also provide us safety and security.

But although we receive this aid, in many cases these are not sufficient enough for us but somehow we survive. We understand everything about Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a small and over populated country and it cannot ensure us sufficient supports.

We are getting support such as:
Education, it is mentionable that especially education system in camp is very poor and limited, after compilation of primary education class-(five) they couldn’t find a systematic life decorating environment that is why they discontinue their study and become useless, thereby it impacts in the community.

Shelter, first UNHCR and Government of Bangladesh together built a bamboo fencing and Tarpaulin shed in 2008, since then they didn’t build and repair. Now they seem very sorry to reside in because they are completely damaged and not usable.

But somehow we are residing in the same situation.

Treatment, treatment system in camp is very poor. Lack of proper treatment most of the cases so many Rohingya children, men, women, and elderly people have died in Bangladesh Refugee camp. In the case of dangerous attempt of seriously ill, sick, heart disease and so on, the doctors only prescribe them same treatment only capsule and tablet. A few numbers of Rohingya refer for better treatment in Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong but this is in vain they are also denied and neglected by doctors from getting better treatment.

Food, UNHCR and Government of Bangladesh jointly make a system for distributing food among Rohingya that is FOOD-Card. They provide us an online food-card and we get and receive food from the food centers, at the end of the month they recharge money according to family members then we get ration from the specific place. Only limited and specific food items could be found.

Clothes, only in a year if they desire not permanently. It is not distributed in every year, they sometimes distribute blankets, sometimes mosquito-net and sometimes sanitizing clothe sheet. That said.

Safety and Security, it is satisfactory.

We are happy that they provide and ensure us enough safety and security through better administration and law enforcement.

Addressing all the above conditions, I hereby earnestly request to UNHCR, Government of Bangladesh and International communities not to carry so much heavy load of Rohingya on your back and better to find a durable solution so that we the Rohingya can escape from the Camp life and can change ourselves as well.

We have passed over decades and we want durable solution. We do not want so much camp life any more. We hope the international community will find a third option so that we do not have to have refugee status anymore.
