A 13-year-old Rohingya boy was critically injured after the Myanmar military reportedly carried out an airstrike on Wacheela Village in Buthidaung Township on Wednesday morning, according to local residents.
The injured boy was identified as Md. Sawyedullah.
Residents said the attack occurred at around 10:30 a.m., when military aircraft, including fighter jets and a Y-12 aircraft, reportedly carried out bombing raids on several villages across the river from Buthidaung town.
According to local residents, at least 10 bombs were dropped during the attack, triggering panic as civilians fled in search of safety.
“The sound of the aircraft spread fear throughout the village before the bombs began falling,” one Rohingya resident told Rohingya Khobor. “Families ran in every direction with their children and elderly relatives, not knowing where they could find safety.”
Residents said Md. Sawyedullah sustained severe injuries in the attack and remained in critical condition at the time of reporting.
The airstrike also forced many families to flee their homes. The total number of casualties and the full extent of the damage could not immediately be confirmed.
Another resident said civilians continue to bear the heaviest burden of the conflict.
“People only want to live in peace, but every day they fear another airstrike,” the resident said. “We hope the international community will not ignore the suffering of innocent families.”
The Myanmar military had not issued any public statement regarding the reported airstrike at the time of publication.
